Won’t You Be My Neighbor?


Won’t you be my neighbor?  Mr. Rodgers will forever be remembered by generations for this question he brilliantly turned into a song.  California Association of Realtors(C.A.R.) recently came out with a graphic and it gave statistics regarding how we interact with our neighbors and if we know them.  In an odd way, personally reflecting, I know many of my neighbors but is that because I am a Realtor? I am “Gen X-er” so that may also play into it.  According to the stats C.A.R. Gen X-er’s are 50% likely to know their neighbor.

There are so many generational comparisons but here is one more. It may be interesting to take a poll within your own family to know how the different generations in your family line up with these or any stats. 59% of Baby Boomers are likely to know their neighbors. 50% of Gen Xer are likely to know their neighbors and then there is the Millennials at 43%.

With the Holidays here in full swing, a plate of home made or store bought (they will not hold it against you) may be a good way to introduce yourself to your neighbor and have them remember you in a sweet way. Get it? Because you brought cookies.  LOL

My point is, it is a great time to introduce yourself or get to know your neighbor.  We may not be able to pick them, kind of like family, but just like family, you never know what relationships you may never had until you get to know that person. Plus, in the graphic it says, knowing your neighbor can ensure safety. I am not sure what that means but I will say, it sounds great!

Before I go on to my next task, I think I will grab some cookies from the store and say hi to a few neighbors I don’t know.  I am sure to get a “yes” response, when I meet them holding a plate of cookies, asking them; Could you be my neighbor?
